His first move as Assistant General Manager, may be has last, according to Rockets insiders. They say the David Wright deal, concocted by Theo Epstein, has struck a cord with management and has certainly drawn the ire of the fans.

“A move like this was very unexpected,” said Danna Heatly, Sports host for WRAK. “I think it shocked the ownership, too. Imagine turning on the radio to find you most promising young star is gone. People are not happy."

Epstein has a history of sending away fan-favorites in Boston, but some team officials hoped those days had passed.

“I have a hard time believed Jack [Reed] would sign off on this,” said Heatly. “He must really trust Theo to make a move like this.”

Barry Bonds The team announced the deal last week, and expects to hold a press conference later this month to welcome six-time MVP Barry Bonds to Rakeville.

“He is a great player,” said Heatly. “I just don’t see him fitting in with the Rockets plans.”

Heatly said the reason for the delayed press conference may be because the Rockets are looking to trade Bonds, but no one in the front office would confirm this.

Epstein has been yet to comment, and Reed is still out of the country on his international scouting campaign. Team Manager Troy O’Leary was optimistic about the deal.

“Big man, big shoes,” he said. “Definitely not my size, thank goodness.”
