Mexico Declares War on Las Vegas
Rivalry in the Making Between the Doggs and Hispanics
By Skip Clifton / Vegas Weekly

Jeremy Shockey LAS VEGAS - Red Sox vs. Yankees, Bears vs. Packers, Maple Leafs vs. Red Wings... Doggs vs. Hispanics?

In the 2004 "EHCC" Fantasy Baseball League, the Las Vegas Doggs defeated Texas Hold'em (now the Tijuana Hispanics) in the playoff semi- finals 6-3. Though the score may not reveal it, this was a battle from start to finish. Harsh words were thrown, in the media and on the field. An incident even occured on the field on the 6th day, as Doggs ace Oliver Perez plunked Hold'em 2B Brian Roberts in the head. A brawl ensued, and it took thirty-five minutes to clear the players from the field.

The Doggs and Hispanics later met up in the final week of the 2004 "Defense Wins Championships" Fantasy Football League. With the Hispanics in the final playoff spot by just one game over the Doggs, a Las Vegas win would have caused an endless list of tiebreakers just to make the post season (Las Vegas would need to win by 80 to win the first tiebreaker, total points). Once again, words were exchanged, on and off the field. During pregame warmups, Hispanics RB Domanick Davis actually spit on TE Jeremy Shockey, causing plenty of pushing and shoving. Nobody was ejected, however, and the Hispanics clinched the final playoff spot with a 115-54 victory.

Carlton Fisk & Thurman Munson Needless to say, the Doggs and Hispanics feud has been brewing ever since rumors were spread that Hispanics GM Peter Kantor "hated" Doggs GM Howe Dogg. These rumors, many months later, have yet to be confirmed or denied. However, on-the-field issues and countless fantasy confrontations have created bitterness and anger off the field. At a recent New Year's Eve event, Howe and Kantor reportedly got into an arguement over a girl they had both met on separate occasions that night. The arguement soon turned physical; Kantor recieved a cut on his hand, while Howe left with a bruised cheek bone.

This heated rivalry appears to be growing with each passing day. Both General Managers are scheduled to be at the EHCC Winter GM Meeting on January 15th, which should create even more tension between the two. In twenty years this may become something bigger than anything we could have ever imagined. Remember, at one point in history, the Red Sox and Yankees were just a couple division foes battling for pennants. Along came a couple guys named Fisk and Munson, and the rest is history.
